NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Emerging singer, songwriter and performer Tenille Townes’ debut single, “Somebody’s Daughter,” is No. 1 this week on both Mediabase and Nielsen BDS Country Airplay charts in Canada. Townes is the first Canadian country artist to have their debut single go to No. 1 in the Mediabase Canada era. She’s also only the second Canadian artist to top the Nielsen BDS Country Airplay chart with their first charted song and the first since Carolyn Dawn Johnson’s “Georgia” in 2000.
The accomplishment adds to what is already proving a breakthrough year for Townes, who was recently selected as part of Amazon Music’s “2019 Artists To Watch,” The Bobby Bones Show’s “Class of 2019,” CMT’s “Next Women of Country,” CMT’s “Listen Up,” iHeart Radio’s “Artists To Watch in 2019” and the inaugural class of “Opry NextStage.” Additionally, Townes continues to garner widespread attention including recent praise at The Tennessean, Refinery29, Wide Open Country and Sounds Like Nashville. Moreover, NPR Music featured Townes as part of their “Best Music of 2018” coverage, hailing her as, “one of the most promising arrivals in mainstream Nashville’s burgeoning singer-songwriter movement…Townes channels ardent empathy into her observational narratives, and her performances begin with fluttery intimacy, then flare with warmth and intensity,” while Rolling Stone named her Living Room Worktapes EP one of the “10 Best Country EPs of 2018” heralding, “Tenille Townes makes a strong case for being country’s most promising young songwriter with this devastating EP.” 2019 will see the release of Townes’ highly anticipated full-length debut album on Columbia Nashville. Produced by Jay Joyce, “Somebody’s Daughter” has already been the subject of widespread attention—CMT.com asserts, “[it] embodies elements of the astute storytelling that Bobbie Gentry mastered in her classic ‘Ode to Billie Joe,’” while Taste of Country proclaims, “her debut single is a life-changer.” In celebration of the debut, Townes is currently touring with Dierks Bentley on his extensive “Burning Man Tour.” The tour, which kicked off January 17 at Hamilton, ON’s FirstOntario Centre, features performances across Canada and the U.S., including stops at Vancouver’s Pepsi Live at Rogers Arena, Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena and Columbus’ Nationwide Arena among many others. Additionally, she will perform select dates this March in Australia as part of the international “CMA: Introducing Nashville” series. See below for complete tour details. Canadian-born and Nashville-based, Townes first made her public appearance at age nine alongside Shania Twain after being invited to sing on stage at a concert she attended with her parents. In addition to her work as a musician and songwriter, Townes remains committed to charitable causes including her own initiative, Big Hearts For Big Kids, which has raised over $1.5 million to date benefiting a youth shelter in her hometown of Grande Prairie, Alberta.
