Cowboy Junkies Release Sharon Temple Sessions
Cowboy Junkies Release Sharon Temple Sessions
Cowboy Junkies 1989 “lost album” Sharon available September 30th on vinyl and all DSPs!
Toronto, ON (August 30, 2022) – Sharon the alternate recording of what would become Cowboy Junkies 1990 The Caution Horses album and follow up to the band’s iconic album The Trinity Session, is available for pre-order for the first time on 180-gram vinyl. The one-microphone recording, captured over 3-days at Sharon Temple in the Spring of 1989, is a ‘lost’ album featuring many songs that became The Caution Horses. This release is a limited pressing that includes an 8-page booklet containing liner notes by Dave Bowler (author of the bands’ biography Music Is The Drug) and never before seen session photos by Chris Buck. Sharon is mastered for vinyl by Cowboy Junkies long-time producer, Peter Moore.
“We spent three unseasonably cold days at the Sharon Temple, a uniquely beautiful wood building situated about an hour north of Toronto and built by a Quaker off-shoot as a place to perform music and celebrate God,” explains Michael Timmins. “In the end we shelved the album and went on to record The Caution Horses in its stead. But thirty-three years later, here she is, Sharon, for the first time on vinyl, rescued from the gaping maw of oblivion”.
Featured performers on Sharon include Margo Timmins (vocal) Michael Timmins (guitar) Peter Timmins (drums) and Alan Anton (bass) with guest musicians: Jeff Bird (mandolin, harmonica, fiddle), Jaro Czerwinec (accordion), David Houghton (percussion), and Kim Deschamps (pedal steel, lap steel).
Sharon vinyl is available for pre-order now through the Cowboy Junkies’ on-line store at https://cowboyjunkies.com/merch/. Both LP and all streaming versions will be available on September 30th, 2022.
